SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Toning Toner | Review

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love centella asiatica as a skincare ingredient and I’m always happy to try out products with it. Now, I’m going to share with you my experience with one of the products from SKIN1004 that I received.

POWER OF CENTELLA AND PHA

You might not have heard of PHAs and that’s because it’s not widely known… yet! It’s a chemical exfoliant like it’s cousins: AHAs and BHAs, but it’s much more tolerable for those with sensitive skin and just as effective. PHA or Polyhdryoxy Acid have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, along with it’s mild micro-peeling effect so it works well with Skin 1004’s popular Centella Asiatica. Chemical exfoliants are a must especially if you have rough skin or hyperpigmentation, but not everyone can handle them. That’s why we love Skin 1004s PHA toner because it works for those with the most sensitive of skin; double it with Centella Asiatica and it’s our favorite everyday use toner.

The Madagascar Centella Toning Toner comes in a clear, plastic bottle containing 210 ml of product. The liquid is clear with an amber color and no discernible scent. It has no artificial color, no artificial fragrance, is alcohol-free and paraben-free. There’s no animal testing involved in the production of this too.

This has 84% centella asiatica extract, niacinamide, gluconolactone and hyaluronic acid. Gluconolactone is a form of PHA (polyhydroxy acid) that’s suitable with sensitive skin types. They are proven to have anti-aging, exfoliating & skin-smoothing effects comparable to AHAs but their molecular structure are bigger, making them slow to penetrate and exfoliate the skin. PHAs also has moisturizing properties as a humectant and gluconolactone was found to be protective against UV radiation in one study.The toner has a really thin, watery consistency and light texture that I can do the 7-skin method with it to get my skin as much hydration as I can give it. The first layer I apply with a cotton pad and the next ones I use my hands to pat in about 3-4 drops. It sinks instantly into skin as soon as I apply it even after the 7th layer without any oily or sticky residue. It leaves me with a soft glow too. I don’t feel any difference regarding the smoothness of my skin but then again, I’ve already expected that because of the PHA in itI’m determined to continue using this until the last drop because I’m interested in its long-term effects. If there are any more significant effects on my skin, I’ll let you know. Lastly, I would recommend this to those with sensitive, oily and acne-prone skins for its centella and PHA content. Also, I’ll be reviewing another SKIN1004 product after this so stay tuned.
